my tuck is an early 99. already has the WW. Plenty of turbo noise, and I really like hearing it scream pulling my camper. Almost time for a tuner, exhaust and intake done, just need the guages so i don't ruin anything

Will tuner help the turbo spool up quicker? I get a pretty good lag through first gear coming out of the hole hard, almost like it's drowning in its own fuel. Usually as soon as it hits second, the turbo screams wide open and takes off like a rocket. Guess i just want to know what the cure is, if any for that bog

Yes.
In the mean time it wouldn't hurt to try the ICP 10k resistor mod. Give it a little more "umph" until you can get a chip.

Sounds like you're doing everything right. Good to start with the basics like intake and exhaust, then work up to gauges, then tuner. I was kicking around the idea of a tuner as well but my truck has plenty of power with just the AIS and exhaust, then again, having been in a couple with a DP tuner it is mighty tempting.

My truck was set up the same way before I got my tuner and I was in the same mindset as you. I will say, once I got my DP, the tuner makes a world of difference over stock.
My truck has plenty of power to do what i need (tow a 8500-9000 pound camper) but it's the fun factor, and why not be able to tow it even better lol
U think u have plenty of power now? Get a DP and u aint seen nothing yet! I had all other mods b4 my tuner and then added my DP tuner last. Looking back it took my F250 Escort and turned it into a F250 Mustang! Wow! 29lbs of boost! Tire smoking power! Can leave anyone u want in a cloud of black smoke if u wish!

I have an early 99 F350. One of the things I would check is the exhaust elbow. The 7.3 has a muffler "elbow" that can be a bit restrictive. I have a Banks power elbow in mine and it makes a difference. I'm sure there are others out there. I also ended up with a DP and there is nothing finer and more fun.
the 80 econo tune Jody puts in his DP tuners is more than enough to make you say HOLY SHEIT!!!
it will also smoke the tires if you don't pay attention to what you are doing. the only difference i see between the 80E tune and the 120 race tune is that it smokes more in 120.
1/4 mile times are about the same, and on a few passes it was actually faster in 80E
John, i would be nervous to put the 140 aggresive in. my truck is over 200k, i'd worry about the tranny even more than the engine
I got that tune more for the smoke than anything, its DPs smoke tune, I very seldom ever race or drive in it, I tried its wayyyy to touchy on the skinny pedal.
Plus when I brake my truck I make it better than it was before... Sometimes I try sometimes it just happens lol
Thanks for the input guys. I was thinking about f5 chip with 60hp tow, and the 80hp economy setting and that would be all i'd need especially if the 80 economy gives you enough fun power, and i think it would. i did throw around the idea of the 100hp setting also, but was gonna just stick with the two
