351C experts - hp estimate?

I've got a chance to buy this engine, but I don't know much about Clevelands... What kind of hp do you guys think it will make, and how much do you think it's worth?

The crankshaft was machined 0.010" under on main and rod journals and polished, block bored 0.040" over and hone fitted for moly rings, all rods resized, flat top pistons installed, comp cam 268 hydraulic, new lifters, heads fully reconditioned with new guides, seats, valve job, new valve springs chosen to match camshaft, (lift on cam is .494", springs will allow up to .520"), new water pump, oil pump, fuel pump, high strength oil pump drive shaft, new oil pump pickup assembly and oil pan (front sump). Engine block casting number indicates it is a 1972 cobra jet, and heads indicate 1974 2v passenger car.

Engine just needs a carb and distributor to be complete. Fresh rebuild, never ran.

Any advice/input would be greatly appreciated!

Those heads would be 78.2 CC combustion chambers, right?

Kelly hotrod - Ford Engines Page 3

If so, assuming a zero deck, a .040 head gasket & a 4.040 bore opening in the gasket, no valve reliefs in the pistons, you a get 9.49:1 CR.

Your cam:

Stock Ford cams:
http://home.comcast.net/~jelerath/mustang/Specs/cams-fr.html

Looks like you are a little better than the stock 2bbl cam, but not as aggressive as the 4bbl CJ & HO cams.

You don't give carb, manifold or header info.

So, my WAG, based on stock 351C's putting out about 360 horse, 380 torque, is that you are in line for about 325/350, more or less depending on carb, manifold, headers.

should make around 1 hrspwr per cube.

ran this combo before with more compression, dome pistons. Was a nasty little combo. Did a little porting and matched up with a edelbrock performer intake. 1 horse per cube is a good ball park with the 268 comp hyd cam. really liked this combo. had a 700 holley double pumper. was in a 1978 f-150 mudder truck on 36". You should be very happy with this combo. likes rpms if compression is decent. what ignition are you running? catch you later. might want to upgrade oil pump shaft to chromoly if turning rpm's or cold weather. The trick to this combo is its simplicity. canted valve head and 3.5" stroke decent rod ratio and let the fun begin. Forgot to mention buy decent timing chain. double roller of good quality is reccomended. I'm a big fan of www.mpgheads.com scott main kicks azz. enginemaster finalist and big ford guy you need to know about in ford world. tim meyer kicks azz and good ford guy. I use scott because of high elevation tuning for my application. good luck and the cleveland will do you well.

Thanks guys.

Right now the engine just has the stock 2bbl intake on it, but I would likely upgrade that to something like the Edelbrock Performer 2750 with a 650-700cfm carb.

Headers I don't know about yet - gonna have to see what will fit in the engine bay... will likely have to be block huggers.

If you have to buy a manifold, get the RPM air gap. (as long as it will all fit under the bonnet of course).

rpm air gap is nice.

I'm currently doing a 400 ford with rpm air gap 351 cleveland. check out some of my photos and you can see a air gap. really like the air gap intakes. got one on my 472 bbf and now gonna on a 400 ford/spacer plates. photos 400cj and any questions drop a message. If a play toy I would reccomend a air gap over others with the 268HE hyd.

forgot to mention?

On this combo you might need to upgrade to bigger fuel line from fuel tank to engine. Also we ran dome pistons with cam and same heads and could turn 7000rpm very easy in a mud truck. 700cfm carb worked nice and msd ignition. I know this is getting up their in rpms but what the hey we was having fun down in texas slinging mud on the brazos river. Really like the air gap intake check out my photos/albums.
