I have an 89 EB bronco with a 302EFI motor and i was wondering what trannies will work in my bronco, i have found 4 off of ebay that i could get but will they work?? The first one is a rebuilt c4 and it says it will fit a 302. The second says it is an AOD and will fit late 80's through mid 90's mustangs. The third one is a C-6 and it came out of a one ton van with a 351W. The Fourth is also a rebuilt AOD and it came out of a 1980 crown vic. Any suggestions which one would fit?? Or does anybody have one on here they would sell to me that works good?? Thanks for your guys help!!!!
it has an aod, it went bad because when you put it in geatr the truck dies, but when i take the transfer case out of gearand put the tranny into neutral, it starts and runs fine, my sister drove it while i was working on the throttle body and drove it six miles without the TB cable attached
You have to get a 4WD transmission, or get a 2WD AOD and have it rebuilt with the output shaft & housing from yours. You can use any transmission from an '80-96 gasoline (except 460ci/7.5L) 4WD fullsize Ford truck/Bronco (not sure about vans) which include the BW T-18/19, NP 435, Mazda M5OD, SROD, ZF S5-42 & S5-50, C-4, C-5, C-6, AOD/4R70W, and E4OD/4R100.
The PCM (performance control module), otherwise known as the computer that controls your engine, is programmed for the AOD transmission. Put anything else in and you might be screwed. Your transfer case is also a consideration, and since you know it will attach to an AOD tranny, that's what I would go with.
Be careful about buying used, big-ticket items on eBay that aren't backed by a warranty of some sort, and then only buy it from someone with lots of positive feedback. I would check around your local junkyards first. It's much easier to take it back if it doesn't fit or doesn't work if you get it locally. Having to pay to ship a tranmission back to the seller defeats any savings you get by buying it on eBay.
PCM is Powertrain Control Module, and there's no programming for the AOD because it's totally mechanically-controlled. Only the 4R70W (electronic version of the AOD), E4OD, & 4R100 (new name for E4OD) are controlled by the PCM/EEC. With the original computer, you'll have no trouble going to any transmission but the 3 electronic automatics, and you can use them if you get a $180 aftermarket or $250 Ford EEC and add a little wiring.
