Guys, that takes way too long use a torch on it (propane) and cook till it looks like
a roasted marshmallow, then coarse steel wool. polish up with finer and finer steel wool.
Works great and won't even take an hour.
That's what I did. Used a plumbers torch, cooked it off in no time no stinky flammable liquids.
I did mine with 220 grit sandpaper on my DA sander, took all of five minutes and no gooey mess to clean up. Followed that up with 600 grit, coulda kept going and polished them, but I was painting them anyway, so stopped there.
