Back when I got the new interior for my truck, I noticed the donor truck had the security lock group. Knowing I wanted to load the F100 with options, I took what was left of the locking hood release, which was basically just the handle. Even better was the fact that my original ignition key for the F100 opened the locking hood release. So now I'm wanting to add the locking hood release to my F100, but I need to find a suitable cable with the proper ferrules. Has anybody here ever opened up a non-locking hood release to see if it also used a ferrule inside the handle? I'm wanting to just find a used non-locking hood release cable and then take off the plastic T handle and use the cable with my locking hood release. Thanks for the help guys!
I think abandonedbronco has one, pm him, he hangs out in the I6 forum
Would he know what is inside the handle? I can get the handle from the junkyard, I just want to know if the handle has the same ferrule fitting at the end of the cable before I waste my time and realize it doesn't.
Well, I answered my own question today. It turns out that even though the handle assemblies are different, I was still able to retrofit the non-locking handle cable to fit my locking handle.
First I knocked off the plastic to see what I was working with. I was happy to see that there was a little small ferrule attached to the handle shaft.
Then I brought out my grinder and took off the handle shaft, leaving the ferrule on the wire.
And finally, after grinding off the excess material, the ferrule fit inside the lock like a glove. My apologies for the blurry picture.
