EGR problems

Well here we go. The check motor light kept comming on intermitently so I was not sure where to check. Finally it stayed on so went to the local AutoZone and their OBD checker said EGR. Changed the EGR same outcome still have the Check engine light. What now. Any ideas Im open to suggestions. Does the power need removed from the system so it can reset the light or is there more to find upstream. I see there is a control solenoid with vacum comming out of it.

If you unhook the battery for about 10 or 15 minutes, it will reset the computer.

A vacuum leak will case that code also I believe.

If the CEL was not cleared...then yes it will remain. to clear it, you can remove the battery cable for about 20min...or...you can get it cleared with most code readers.

Have you had the codes read again since the EGR was repalced?? you might have new codes present??

there is a control valve that gets involved , yes, ususaly the silicone hoses to the it go bad hence not reading correctly
How many miles are on this unit?? If you have higher miles...then it might be good to remove the throttle body and give it a good cleaning..b/c there are EGR ports inside that tend to get carboned up & restrict flow as well.

Well e&b that article you posted a link to led me to the right answer. My truck is a 98 4.6 with 112thousand miles on the clock. Anyway check all the possible culprits for vacum leaks and found none. All switches and regulators were powered and working ok. Kind of narrowed it down to the throttle body. Long story short the ports to the egr valve were completely plugged off. Guess if I have the truck for another 100 thousand it will be time to clean them again if not sooner. Again thanks for the help and the useful link. Keep on truckin.
