2003 - 6.0L 4x4 with 225,000 miles.
Truck was built with tow package but not with snow plow package.
Truck does have a plow now and does very minor plowing in the winter.
(I only mention this because I think it rules out any option for recall which I've been reading about)
It was diagnosed this week with a reverse clutch snap ring problem because of how it clunks when put in reverse and stumbles backward when in reverse gear and foot off brake.
So I figure with the high miles I may as well go ahead and do a major overhaul of the tranny.
Any thoughts on a Ford dealership v's a diesel aftermarket garage?
Any kits that are better than others or are all the same?
Anything I should consider now that I'm committed to pulling the trigger on this?
If you're going to do a transmission in your truck then go with a Ford reman. The price is very reasonable and warranty is EXCELLENT. The trans comes with a new torque convertor and cooler. The warranty is 3yr/36K miles and even if you install it yourself then as long as it's not installed incorrectly if it goes out all you have to do is return it to any dealership and they do the reinstall UNDER WARRANTY. You should be able to get one for about $2600.
