OK my motor has been sitting up sinse late 2003. The battery is grounded to the chasis along with the motor. I've primed the oil and have turned it over by connecting the battery streight to the starter. What Im asking here is what way to get fire to the splugs. I have the coil on top losely. So do I run a hot wire to the positive side of the coil and ground the negitive to the motor? I have cranked and cranked and sprayed either in the carb. It wouldnt fire up. Does the coil have to be mounted to be grounded? I'm not real sharp with electrical stuff. I don't want to put the cab back on until I know its running. You can see the truck at www.jackus.winkflash,com

Run a wire from the battery + to the + on the coil and then run another wire from the - on the coil to the distributor. The coil will work laying down or standing up. The coil doesn't need to be grounded. That and fuel and it should start.
Don't sit there and keep spraying starting fluid. If everything is set properly, the engine will fire. I prefer a small cup fuel of gas, pour just a bit into the carb and crank. That will fire the engine enough to pull the fuel from the tank and keep it running. Staring fluid is for diesels.
