V-10 vs 8.1 Vortec V-8
Very true, the dodge is underpowered for its size to power ratio. Gas mileage, the numbers I posted were true, during the winter months it was however down to 10mpg in town. It has 450 lbs/ft torque. But what separates it from the ford is its diesel like powerband. In OD on the highway it has an extreme amount of get up and go that Im not used to with other vehicles. However, I am not the least bit impressed with their auto trans. It makes the big 10 rev way to much around town and makes unneeded downshifts from 3-2 when lightly accelerating.

About the new V10.....Im not quite sure if it is a hemi or not. I did hear that along time ago. But they do, however, have a 500HP 500lbs/ft 8.3 liter v10 for the viper and sr10 (the lightnings future competition). Now, ive heard this may be dropped into a truck, obviously detuned to a sane level of power.

Dodge actually DERATED all the V10s this year to the (previously California only) 305/440.
My 97 was 300/450 from the factory, and in 99 that was bumped to 310 hp. Remember, the CA truck were only single/exhaust cat, while the Federal trucks were TRUE dual exhaust/dual cat.
I suspect that slow sales of the "10" weren't enought to warrant two different versions, so they saved money, and went to the California setup on all trucks. I agree with the others here - the current 488 V10 will be going "bye-bye", and replaced with possibly a 6.1 Hemi V8, or something else.
Again - I agree with Gamehunter. My V10 was a torque monster, especially with the Borla headers and duals.
The Ford does make EXCELLENT numbers for its displacement. The Triton is a good engine, for sure.
