8.1 L Big Block Chevy and Duramax

How in the heck is ford going to compete with a 8.1 liter Vortec Chev, I think we all know the mealy 6.8 v-10 wont do ##### against that chev 8.1 is like 495 cubes and what are everyones feeling on the 24v 6.6 duramax diesel it makes 300 horses whichs rivals the venerable PSD oh and they have a tried and true allison 5 speed slushbox i sure hope Ford has something in store for the Ford fans as we may be getting blown out of the water here soon unless all those moron chevy guys trash their allisons when they bottom the wreck out

The PowerStroke is holding its own. 275hp and 520ft-lbs of tq. Ford only gives this engine to those who get the 6-speed because their auto can't handle it. And don't forget the new diesel Ford's coming out with, a G2 click here to learn more, http://www.blueovalnews.com/powerstroke_60l_v8.htm
A Duramax spanker if I ever saw one.

Pick up the latest issue of popular mechanics. If you think the 8.1 L blows the 6.8 L away, you're sadly mistaken.

What was the gist of the Popular Mechanics article? I'd love to hear that the two engines are comparable, after listening to GM owners talk as if the HD's were race cars. The numbers for both engines aren't really that different, so I'd love to see a real-world test show that.

About the Diesel, the PSd now tow's what the Duramax does. The new 6.0L PSD2 will have the same close power, and more torque.

I'll bet you my truck, that Ford is planning for another v-10 to replace or go along side the current V-10 with similar power specs. Dodge is allready going with a new V-10 to replace the 8.0L

I highly doubt the new Stroker will be aluminum.It probably couldn't with stand the super high pressures a diesel uses so probably most weight loss comes from block size reduction.Dodge's new V-10 will be 8.3L (505 cubes) and I understand the Viper version will be 500 horsepower with the truck version having 360 horsepower or so.Also,they are coming out with a very badass Hemi for the truck in late 2002 around 330 horses I think.As for the argument over engine size,I will only say;

DISPLACEMENT SPEAKS!

Have any of you driven the 8.1L chevy yet? I drove one in a 3500 HD at work the other day... couldn't juice it too much cuz it wasn't mine, but for what i did, it isn't that impressive of an engine... Even though the truck had a heavy-##### compressor on the back, it should have done a lot more than it did when i floored her... and it's eerily quiet too, my dad's 350 vortec is just as loud...

maybe dodge is coming out with a bigger and bader engine but the question is will the frame be able to stand up to the horsepower that them big motors will be give out??????More than likely not dodge frames aren't able to stand up to the cummins diesel in them now so how will they be able to handle anything bigger??I have never heard anything about a ford with a power stroke diesel having any frame problems and to top that power strokes are the top selling motor for people that pull trailers and ford has also been the top selling truck for 23 years!!!

With regards to the "New Silverado HD"....

If the commercials are anything like the truck it's all laughable! Anybody that would honestly sit and listen to the stupidest of commercials deserves to buy one.

In all truth and fairness the only diesels I know of that are worth anything? 6.9, 7.3, Powerstroke, and cummins.

Those are the only good ones that I know of that have been put into pickups. If there are any other good diesels add them into the list.

hotrodford_88, you're running an IC-V100? Proffesional interest, i'm apprenticing as an electronics tech in the two-way radio field... those are good radios, running a V-200 myself. What do you use it for?

I run with a local Volunteer Fire Dept. I'll tell you this though, when other radios can't get out. THis one is like long distance, it'll definitely reach out and touch someone.
Most of the new radios I have seen are only running between 10-40 watts, and 40 is the highest I have run across.

See the bad thing is that it took ch*** 495 cubic inches to get over 300hp.....if you ask me that is pathetic.....i personally own a f-150 with a 302 and i have around 305hp.....their might be a little factor called (weight) there with the bigblock ch*** weiching prboly double my 302....oh yeah and about the desil thing....just weight till the new G2 comes out...and a v10 ford 6.8 liter can outperform the extremely heavy bibblock V8 that che** thinks is the best thing since sliced bread....thats my opinion
