Like the title says I finished up the install, The truck feels alot more responsive! who would have known that a CAI was this easy and the best part it only costed me $17 !!!
I noticed a little more get up and go when I did mine, nothing amazing, but noticeable. Besides, considering this is one of the easiest and cheapest mods to do, I don't see why anyone wouldn't do it. Cheap, simple, and effective.
Does this really help the feel of the truck? It just seems so simply to make that big of a difference.
I don't have the DWV Gott's Mod .... but I have what is essentialy an aftermarket version of same deal. Mine is a "True-Flow" intake tube (#20502, I looked it up) which the previous owner had installed. It comes with the piece that locks into the fender whicjh is bigger ID than the stock one.
I wasn't sure how much noise it made or contributed to ... so I picked up a complete stock intake tube from fender to include air cleaner housing (it included a K&N filter) off ebay for under $20 and just for kicks, swapped the tube part on and tried it. I noticed that in over 100 miles of driving, the truck did seem to be more sluggish at speed, seemed to be "dead" in some ways. This was with my same filter, I just swapped the intake tubing and the piece in the fender.
So, yeah ... I think the Gott's Mod is certainly worth the under $10 price tag. That piece in the fender that snaps in the hole is pretty small on the inside diameter stock.
After that, I put my "True-Flow" tube back on. Truck feels some better with it, though I never did try 1/4 mile times, etc. The True-Flow also has it's own foam type filter which I really like, so I never used the K&N yet. It's red and matches the truck too, not sure if it's still available.
The "Gott's Mod" is cheaper.
My noise issue was solved with the addition of a red bullet to kill drone of the FM cat back that also came on the truck.
Does this mod change the sound of the engine under the hood? I understand the True Flow one most likely does but is the sound any different with the DWV Gott Mod one?
Summit Racing has a house brand CAI and Airaid has a JR kit. Looks like it draws air from the front instead of the fender. Airaid also just sells the intake tube w/o filter.
