Cowl/hood seal

The rubber strip that goes along the edge of the cowl is gone on my truck. Is there a universal rubber strip that I could use as a seal along that edge or does it need to be specific to the make/model/year vehicle?

I'm sure you could make one out of some rubber tubing or something if you are creative but this seal is reproduced.

I believe I purchased mine from JC Whitney a few years ago. It has clips that snap into the cowl molded into it...

You could use something else, but why?

I'm virtually certain you can buy the correct part from Dennis Carpenter. IIRC it wasn't outrageously priced.

On a side note; whenever I see an add for a truck that says something like "meticulously restored", I Iook at the under-hood pictures for that very piece of rubber. The vast majority of the time those are missing, or if there, they're in bad shape. If you can't be bothered to replace that part, how "meticulous" is the "restoration"?

I got an aftermarket one a while back & it was crap. Then, I got a used one off a '80's cab and it fit & works a lot better, it's a lot bigger then the stock one. It's a little short though, I should have got 2 of them and put them together.

True, the repro isn't has perfect as the original, and true they don't really seal as well.. I like the idea of one from the 80s that is bigger..

I listed Kinsel L/M because I figured the parts would be genuine Ford, but there are others who have the cowl seal.

But, I dunno if the following are genuine Ford...or repops. You'll have to call the sources and ask.

D7TZ-16740-A =

ANTIQUE AUTO SUPPLY in Arlington TX has 1 = 817-275-2381.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 2 = 800-543-4959.

PARTS INTERNATIONAL in Farmers Branch TX has 8 = 888-727-0418.

WESLEY OBSOLETE PARTS in Liberty KY has 9 = 606-787-5293.

Thanks Bill!

Parts International carries this as a NOS part, per Douglas there. I ordered one... pricey, but that's ok. Burt is worth it. It was $47.95 plus $9 shipping from Texas to So California. Antique Auto Supply number is disconnected and I didn't call the others. I don't want to know if I got ripped off! :-) I'll let ya know the quality and if in fact it is NOS... Hope so!! Some of the clips on the reproduction part I got a few years ago keep unsnapping out of the holes on the cowl and they are not spaced correctly enough so I get a little buckling between them, making the piece sort of useless!
