4r100 problems

Hi,
Fairly new here and I'm looking for advice. I've got a 2000 f350 v10. I've been experiencing very hard upshifts going into all gears lately after the truck gets good and warmed up, mainly if i've been sitting in traffic or towing. A few times it has seemed to go into neutral while driving along. This seems to happen if i shortly back off the gas then get back on it. Just had it at the ford dealer and there are codes for the output shaft speed sensor and cam position sensor. Prior to taking the truck to the dealer i replaced the cam position sensor but that code keeps coming back. They are telling me that the hard shifts could be explained by the faulty sensors but the "going into neutral" symptom will require a new tranny or re-build in order to be solved. Is what they are telling me accurate or could the faulty sensors be the cause of all my symptoms. I also recently change tranny fluid and filter. The old fluid looked clean and after a few hundred miles the new fluid is still clean.

Any feedback is much appreciated.
Thanks
Frank

Going to neutral might be those sensors, but it is more likely the TRS (Transmission Range Sensor) on the driver's side of the trans. The other two sensors are probably causing the hard shifts.

It actually is even more likely that it is the wiring to the sensors, not the sensors themselves.

Thanks Mark

Is there a test I can perform on the TRS to check if it is faulty? I will begin chasing wiring and re-seating conections on all sensors. Another symptom I have is the cruise control not working. I assume that is related to the speed sensor malfunction.

It's really hard to diagnose the TRS. I have not run into one yet that will set a code for this problem. The only way to do it is to drive with a scan tool monitoring data. Watch the PIDS to see if it changes from D to N without you moving the shifter.
