Exhaust size help

Well, I've been riding around for a few years with no muffler. It came with a glasspack and I really didn't like the sound. It was attatched behind the last cat, so i cut it off there and gutted the cat. I like loud, but this has sounded a little too 'raggedy' or 'rough'. So, I'm thinking about getting a used Flowmaster 40 or preferably super 44 on Ebay for 35 dollars.

I need to know what size to get. I measured the diameter of my pipe. I got 2 inches. That sound right? That sure sounds restrictive for two pipes to join into a 2'' pipe coming from a v8. But i don't haave the money to help it breathe, I just need to give it a better sound. And if i wanted to put it on myself, what size muffler and what kind of clamps would i need?

You measure the outside diameter, not the inside, just so you are sure you get the right reading.

Can I just buy a coupler and clamp it on? I don't have a welder. Any change in sound if I went with a 2.25'' vs a 3'' inlet for example on the muffler?
