I have a 99 ford f150 5.4L 2 wheel drive. The transmission is having problems it starts up an will go into gear but won't shift out of first or go over 30mph. I've changed the fluid an filter but it didn't help. I checked the dust plus and it's still in place. Any help would be nice. I don't want to have to pull the transmission if it's not needed yet.
First understand the transmission is under electric control of the PCM.
If you have the PCM checked for transmission codes and find none indicating a faulty control function, there is a possibility a spring is broken in the valve body not allowing a valve to move in the body to direct fluid directions. Or a servo spring is broken.
It's a matter of draining the fluid and dropping the valve body for inspection.
Beyond that, you then know if the issue is a deeper one and may require a rebuild or other replacement parts.
Good luck.
