I've got questions on the 2011 Explorer. I just came home from looking at one. This has the trailer tow package. It's a 4x4 with the V-6 and six speed trans.. The brochure states 2,000 lbs or 5,000 lbs towing capacity depending on gear ratios. The salesman or the product literature does not show anything for an electric trailer brake control. Any help will be appreciated. Best, CB

According to the info on Ford, the Explorer only comes with the 3.5L TiVCT engine.
The FWD model (4x2) has a GCWR of 9920 lbs and max loaded trailer weight of 5000 lbs and uses a 3.16 gear ratio.
The 4WD model has a GCWR of 10096 lbs and a max loaded trailer weight of 5000 lbs and uses 3.39 gears.
Either the brochure is wrong or the website is, wither way I hope it helps.
Thank you. Now I have to find out about the trailer brake controller. The salesman kept on with me about the vehicle didn't need a controller. I finally got through to him that if you can't install a controller then why do you need a 7pin connector. Think I'll try another dealer this morning. Best, CB
If a seven pin connector is factory installed, then a brake controller plug is somewhere under the dash. If only a four pin connector, or none, is there, then you or your RV shop will have to do the wiring, which has always been the case with most vehicles in the past. Salespeople know little of the technical details of the products they sell. What do you expect, an engineer working for $100 per deal?
