1996 Bronco Engine issue

1996 Bronco 302 with 145,000 5 speed manual, purchased 1 year ago, had a lotta power loss issues at the start changed, Plugs, Wires, Fuel filter, good compression, changed out one cat the muffler for a glass pack, ended up being the fuel pressure regulater valve, plus only bout 10 miles to gallon, I don't lead brick the pedal either ....... Still just isn't enough power for me specially out of a V8.
Suggestions, Straight 6 or a 351 for a replacement, don't necessarily want speed just Torque and power... What would I be looking on having to replace/add to the system for the swap out... think that either engine will bolt right on. But for Electrical/computer wise would everything meld or are we talking replacement issues

Welcome to FTE and the Big Bronco Forum. We will do our best to get you the most accurate information we can.

My suggestion would be to go for a 300 if you want low end grunt and torque AND fuel economy. If mileage isn't as big a concern then the thirstier 351 will be just as good. In either case the 302 is still a "pony car" engine and it always will be.

You WILL need a computer from an F-150 with a manual transmission from 96. ($125.00 - Rock Auto plus $70.00 core). You will also need the main engine wiring harness for which ever engine you decide upon.

You will need to change flywheels if you go with the 300. Not certain about the 351 swap but someone here knows for sure. Motor mounts for a 300 are significantly different but if you can find a donor truck from 92-96 most everything you need will be right there and it all bolts in as you suspected. Exhaust changes a bit but keeping the 302 radiator is fine, if not better, when swapping to the 300.

I'm sure I'm missing something but thats why there are others here. Good luck with the truck.

Had a 300 back in high school, love that engine. Easy to work on and just a work horse.....probably gonna go with that. I am gonna get to work on finding a donor truck hopefully with engine and tranny, would a harness from an f-150 work same year?

Engine harness from the same year F-150 will work just fine. Honestly, everything from an F-150 of the same year will work.
