Cool! I found a description of the location on autozone and thought that might be it. Thanks for the confirmation. We looked at it after things cooled down last night. It has T2T1 in large letters on it - those letters are also on a small sticker inside the driver's door. Is this all I need or do I need other numbers from the unit?
Now... here's today's new symptom observation. I went out and started the van this morning without starter fluid. It took a little while. When it did start, I got lots of black smoke and a little rough idling. The exhaust was moist with and left a carbon smell on my hand. Plus, there's a lot of black deposit building up on the concrete where it's being spewed out of the exhaust. That's only been there for the last couple of weeks at the most.
(I think I need to buy him a new car - wish I could!)
The 2T21 is the code for the program that is in the computer, some call it the catch code.
There should be another number on the computer that has a number something like F3TF-12A650-***.
Look at the image below.
Also sounds like you may have a bad Fuel Pressure Regulator (FPR). Pull the vacuum hose off the nipple on top and turn the key on and off with a cold engine. If you see any fuel at all the FPR is bad.
