Chrome Grill

## Update Page 2 ##
I've searched untill I'm blue in the face and can't find the post I saw
sometime ago where I found this link to John's F-Fun Hundred's:

https://secure25.securewebsession.co...shop/index.htm

The post was wanting to know if anyone had dealings with them and what
quality this grill may be. I got so caught up in looking at the site I didn't
finish reading the post for the info I now need.

They list a 52 F1 chrome grill for $550 w/exchange, considering the one or two
chrome shops I've talked to want almost $1000 to chrome mine (pristine w/no damage)
I was wondering what experiences anyone has had with John's, in particular the chrome grill and the quality of it.

I bought a chromed grill for my 53 at the last Pate Swap Meet at Texas Motor Speedway for $300 with no exchange. This was from a California chromer who I have seen at this swap meet several times. The quality of the chrome is not great but good enough for a driver as they say. My understanding is anything as big as a grill with lots of curves is difficult to chrome to 'show' quality. I would definately ask what kind of quality you can expect for $550.

Well I think I got my answer when I called them today to see if they had any and if that price was still correct.

They said they currently didn't have any and that the few cores they had were not good ones.
To which I replied, "Well mine is in pristine condition(which it IS), why don't I send it to you and you can chrome it and send it back to me."
After putting me on hold she came back and said, "No, everyone says theirs is perfect and then get really **** and will keep trying to send
it back saying it's either not a good job or there's something wrong with it."

......That's all I needed to hear.......

Sounds like a case of you get what you pay for, and this time it didn't cost me a thing

I may have an excellent grille for chroming. Let me find out what the cost is to do that and perhaps we can do the core exchange like John's F-Fun Hundreds.

I always thought I would prefer to chrome the complete grill, but with the cost of shipping it back&forth and the chroming itself, I may go this route:

I like it pretty good with just the **** chromed

Nice contrast with the paint and just a touch of chrome

arrowhead has a beautiful grill he just had chromed on his yellow truck. Ask him how much it costs. I'd like to chrome mine but it's too expensive. The combo of paint and chrome is nice though. I lot cheaper.

I just had a 53 grille plated here in SoCal...I seperated the grille center bar from the headlight buckets and had the six teeth and the V8 emblem all done for $400. The guy I use sends his chrome work out...I beleive that it is being done in TJ. So far I have had the front bumper and the grille plated by this guy and have been pleased with the work and the price. Chrome shops here in the area (at least North of the border) are just about all gone now so the turnaround time and cost have skyrocketed.
I could check with him about a 52 grille if you would like...shoot me an email.

I've been talking to Arrowheadfred (dale) a lot lately, he's been quite a bit of help to me in a couple of respects.
He's given me the shop name and number of his chrome guy in Fla., just haven't had time to call yet.....if you see this, Thanks Dale.

If I had to guess, you can thank the EPA for that.

I too am in a bit of a rut when it comes to wanting chrome...I can't afford the dull stuff though, let alone the good stuff!

My friends and I were at Hunnert Car Pileup a few years back and one particular green '54 Chevy stood out to me. Nice lookin car it was. We walked up on it and Jake came walking around, telling us about his history as a mini truck builder and how he made his car. Good guy and all, a real swell fella. Anyways, since posting pics sucks, google search Jake Moomey 54 chevy for pictures...you will see a few pics of his car. Tell me what you think of his chrome...cause it's not all chrome.

There is a guy in Grand Rapids, MI at Essex Customz that does painted chrome, "Cosmichrome". I can tell you that there is a very slight difference, but from 4 ft away it is a very faint difference if any. It costs less than plating, and gets treated like painted surfaces, meaning waxed, not polished.

Anyways, honestly take a look at that car in the high res pics and tell me what parts are real chrome vs not real chrome. I remember from talking with him most of what was real chrome...there's not much I can tell you that.
