tire size questions

I am going to install a 2.5" leveling kit on the front of my truck and maybe a 1" block(or add a leaf) in the rear to get my truck UP a little bit. (I still want a rake to the front, call me silly) I was thinking of going to a 265/70/17 or 285/70/17 tire on stock wheels. (31.7" x 10.7" & 32.8" x 11.5" respectfully) I have since discovered a 255/75/17 tire(32.1" x 10") It's a tall, narrow tire compared to others.

Is anyone running this size? How does it look? I think it would fill the wheel wells nice, not stick out and fit the stock wheels perfectly.

The stock tires are 235/70/17's & are 30" in diameter. My truck has 3:73 gears. Is going to a 32" tire going to change performance much? I do plan on getting a programmer to adjust the tire dia settings. Thanks!

265/70R17 = Diameter Difference: 5.23%

285/70R17 = Diameter Difference: 8.41%

Both will likely fit, but IMO I'd go for the 265 option. The 285 is likely to be a touch wide for the stock rims, and you're likely to see some strange wear patterns because of it. The 265/70/17 should look good on your truck. They might even fit without a level kit.

you can fit up to a 35x12.5 without hassle on stock rims (thats what is on my 08, you may have minor rub at the bottom of the bumper, i have an aftermarket bumper on mine so i have lots of room).

I run the 285 on my truck and have no issues with it what so ever. Although mine is a 285/65 and not the 70 but the 70 should work for you fine. As far as gears goes I have not noticed any difference to performance or anything with the larger tire. In fact I barely even noticed a drop in MPG in going to the 3" kit, 1" block, and larger tires which surprised me a bit.

On my 06 I have a 2.5 inch leveling kit and 295-70-17 toyos with 17x9 wheels. Had to trim the plastic part under the bumper a bit, but no other rubbing. Performance wise, its still pretty fast and pulls my 16ft trailer fine. Didnt see a huge difference in mpgs...I have friends that run 285s on stock rims. Fills the fender a lil better than the 265s JMO.
