I want to change my wheel/tire size from 245/75R 17 to 275/70R 18. According to the tire place, this new size fits my truck. If I do this, how do I go about getting my speedometer re calibrated? The new tires will be 1.7" larger in diameter than the originals.
I have no idea about the calibration question (but I don't think your MPH would show much in the way of a deviation) but your tire size 275/70R 18 is what I'm interested in.
You stated your tire store said these tires would fit? And how did they come to that conclusion? Does Ford engineering group put out recommendations for such add-ons as tires? I was told they do? Is this the data your local store tapped into or what is from another source?
Ford and other auto manufactures do not want certain specifications breeched out of liability and safety reasons so they make recommendations for people like us. So I've read anyway. I'm awaiting my 2013' Ford F-150 XLT regular cab 4WD unit which I want to "juice up" a bit with taller/larger tires/rims. Only 17's are now offered from the factory on this particular model.
I simply looked on the Discount Tire website for replacement tires for my truck. They show what they have and also list additional sizes that they say will fit. I have no idea how they determined that. I am trying to find tires with a higher load rating than the originals but I think my quest may be in vain.
