I am curious as to what kind of mileage guys are getting with there 6.0 4x4. City/HWY loaded and unloaded. My 03 4x4 7.3 I was getting about 14 city and 18 hwy unloaded.
Excursion ? Crew Cab ? single Cab ? Stock? tuned? gearing? Speeds? winter fuel or summer blend? flat or mountains? remote start with lot's of idling for AC ?
Lot's of variables to come up with the answer
but I can guess that mine is less than a Prius and more than a Peterbilt i.e. I never really measure mine
My overhead says between 13 and 21 depending on all the variables...
I understand the variables will be different for truck to truck and how you have it set up and what it is. It is a very broad question. I do apologize for not being more specific. I was just curious.
Really what I am looking for is what people have done as far as upgrades to maximize the Fuel mileage. I know that when you go with a big truck you are throwing economy to the wind to have the power and performance. Back when Diesel was .50 cents cheaper then Unleaded it wasn't a concern for people but now it is higher then gas. And of course that has gone up allot too.
I just wanted to know what people have done to compensate for the increase over the years. What upgrades they have done to increase there economy and how much it has increased. I know more power means better economy to a certain extent. Just wondering.
3.73LS in the pumpkin, 5R100, 265/75/R16E Michelin X Radials at 60 psi, I keep it at or under 70 mph on the highways (keeps the RPM below 2k) and I've got a soft cover over the bed when not pulling a 5th wheel or hauling something big. The last 3-4 tanks I've been trying "Opti-Lube" with each fuel up; before that I was running Diesel Kleen (gray summer/white in winter). I'm running Mystk JT8 15W40, swapped every 5k miles with Racor filters; fuel filters every 10k also Racor. The kitty is MIA and I did have a "ZooDad" mod upfront...until I hit a deer last summer on the driver's front (haven't gotten around to doing it again). Other than that, the truck is pretty much stock.
3.73 gears, 295-70-18 tires, egr del, cat del, sct tuner with extreme street by Eric, diesel kleen every fill up. 17 city 21 hwy no load. I have other mods but I think theses are the ones that would have an impact on mpg.
Thanks for the info guys. I had a guy in my unit a couple of years ago that had a 04 F-250 CC SB 4x4 6.0. He said he was getting 26 hwy out of his but I have a hard time buying that. But who knows maybe other people have gotten that kind of mileage too with there mods they have done. I know his was tuned but I don't remember what other mods he had.

What do you get in the winter time, and what area do you live in?

Out of a 4WD? I'm going to play the BS card. The only time I've EVER gotten above 22 mpg (hand calculated) was a period of three months where all my miles were logged at 55-60 mph. I was getting 23-24...but that's it. Unless he was running 45 mph, I just don't see a 6.0L power 4WD SD getting those kinds of numbers.
