E4OD Bushings
I have disassembled and cleaned my E4OD and noticed there are about a dozen brass or bronze bushings in the various components that are not included in the rebuild kit.
My tranny has 260k miles and I tested a few of the bushings - like the input shaft to stator bushings and the coast clutch bushing - and there is some wiggle in the bushings but it is not a lot. Since this is my first tranny rebuild I don't know how snug the bushings should be.
So when you rebuilt your transmission, did you replace the bushings?
The way I gauge bushing wear on those bushings is to look at the oil groove in the bushing, it might be very thin or not there at all, but of course you will need a new bushing to compare too.
Note: Not all bushings have oil grooves like the in the rear of the case will not have a oil groove, there is a one piece case bushing available that I have used and like. Also you will need bushing drivers to install any of the bushings.
The bushings you are referring to in the pump stator and coast clutch drum don't typically wear a lot, but I cant really tell you yours are ok without seeing them.
I went ahead and ordered a bushing set - supposedly has all the bushings - for less than $40. I figure that way I can see a new bushing and then determine how worn the old one is.
Much appreciated!
