Filters:

OK I think I'm ready to change over to T6. Got the oil and filters but just one question.
I picked the filters up at Auto Zone. The book and computer say these are the right ones for my 06 6.0 F350:

Fram CH9549 on the oil and
Luber-Finer FF779/L4604F for the two fuel filters. Now I've never heard of them but the box sayz it is a product of Champion Laboratories, Inc.

Now where on either does it say OEM. Checking the Luber-Finer web site they say they are OEM certified.

take them back and go to ford and get OEM filters. i think oreillys carries motorcraft filters. get the cap also if you are unsure of what the previous filter is.

I don't know about Luber-Finer...but that's the correct part number for Fram. What you need to check is this:

(A)The end caps are molded to the filter element. The entire filter should be one piece...no adapters. You shouldn't get a "new cap" with the filter for the housing. But there should be a new o-ring, replace the old one & get the new one "wet" with clean oil before you screw the cap back on.
(B)Check to make sure there's a felt ring on the bottom of the filter
(C)Should say "Made in USA" and have a couple of patient numbers on it. You might find one that says "Made in Germany" and have the patient numbers (6.0L filters were originally made/built in Germany). Those are the exact same..but after all these years, are rather rare.

Hope these help..

The Fram CH-9549 is the right oil filter for the 6.0 but the fuel filters are knock offs. If you want to save some money go to dieselfiltersonline and buy the Racor filters which are OEM for alot less then a dealer. Racor makes the oil filters for Motorcraft and the Fram CH-9549.

Thanks guys, I took the other filters back to Auto Zone and after trying to convince my I was nuts, they did refund. I went to O'Reilly and they showed 3 kinds. The first one was a WIX filter for $75.00 (wow, must have gold seals) which had no water shield. The second one was MicroGard (33899) which said on the box it was same as FRAM CS9667 and PTC PC9667. It had the water shield, I bought it. The third was a FRAM but someone had stolen it off the shelf so I'll never know.

I don't know what a PTC is but if it isn't a Motorcraft or Racor I wouldn't use it. Too many stories of A/M problems with fuel and oil filters.

I guess you are trying to avoid shopping online, but if you had gone to this place you would have been set for the next 10,000 miles: Performance Truck Products

Fuel Filter = $35.95
Oil Filter = $16.95 x 2 = $33.90
Shipping = $0.00 (orders over $50 ship for free)
Total = $69.85

You would have been set for your next 2 oil changes and 1 FF change.

How much did you spend around town?

I have used the fram when it was my only option and it worked fine but when u hold the two together there is a difference in the filter media ( not sure what difference for sure) but the motorcraft had a much tighter media and cleaner construction,at least the filter heights where dead on so no problems with either one just a motorcraft piece of mind lol

The Fram CH-9549 and the Motorcraft FL-2016 oil filters are made by Racor Co. Same filters just the packaging is different.

dieselfiltersonline have some of the best prices on the market for 6.0 filters.

air filter $49.95
oil filter $13.95
fuel filters $35.75
external trans filter $ $12.99 All quoted filters are OEM replacements.

It seems MicroGard is now the same as Motorcraft and Fram. I was at Oreily's a couple of days ago to get the Mobil1 $19.99/gal deal and they are the same filters. They even have the same patent number on the top. I also checked height and diameter to be certain and all looked spot on. At $13.45 ea it is a pretty good deal. Can't be sure if filter media is different by looking at it myself.

Microgard is a O'Reily's store name filter that could be supplied by Purolator and or Fram.

The fuel filter had an "O" ring on the end where the Autocraft filter that I was replacing did not. It threw me for a bit until I went to older posts and found it was a new feature to prevent fuel from bypassing a plugged filter.
All is in and happy, in and running and my future filters are on their way from dieselfiltersonline.com.
