you can get to it without pulling the turbo and yes its a PITA but it can be done. get a new IRP kit. it comes with screen and orings. doesnt cost that much but if the screen is torn and with the problems that your having i wouldnt be suprised if you have to just replace the thing. if it was me id just replace it anyways if the screen was torn because there is no way to tell what could have gotten in there

Swamp i don't think it will be that bad pulling the IPR you have to get a IPR socket , it has a slot cut in it to fit around the plug. If i can pull a ICP from behind the turbo you can get this out. And if not the turbo is not that bad to pull, hour and a half and its out.

Fellas, I don't doubt you advice and I will follow it, but I don't understand why it would go out at the exact time the oil cooler was replaced. Just seems like a strange coincidence.

Yes you can but needs to be running and at temp ICP at hot idle 590's to 640's and IPR at 22% . Mine idles at 641 icp and 21.7% ipr. From what i read if ipr was bad would read high like 80% at idle.

Here are the numbers. Can you translate? ICP shows 875 & IPR shows 29.9-30.2 with engine temp @ 202.

thats me too at hot idel ICP 640 & IPR 22.8 I just went to store and watched these

when the IPR is above 35% maybe even less at hot idel you have a HPO leak and the IPR is trying to makeup for it

SWAMPS ICP is high for idel 875 ICP when mines around 640ICP

Leads me to suspect the IPR is not letting the oil return to the oil pan keeping the ICP high

when you pulled the oil cooler was the valley of the moter clean was the turbo oil drain tube out of the hpo cover letting all the junk run into the hpop

I stuffed my turbo oil drain tube back in while I cleaned the top of the moter and also when I pulled the oil cooler to keep the junk out of the HPOS

I know what your saying how could the IPR go out at the same time as the work

well Im not buying that either

But what I do think is you got trash in the oil system and it plugged the fine screen on the IPR which makes sense to me since you say it runs great with the pedal smashed to the floor but runs ruff when you let off

when you let off the pedal this is when the IPR opens up and returns the HPO to the crank case but it cant because theres trash on the screen blocking the path for the HPO to drain

I dont know what eles it could be if all you did was an oil cooler and it ran fine before the work

yea its the IPR. ipc would cause a no start and so would a leak but you have neither of those so its pointing to the IPR. ive seen it happen before as soon as the guy finishes his truck runs like crap. i know 2006powerstroke90 had this problem but it was after head studs and what not but his got trashed

OK, that makes sense. I feel like I was careful but I can't guarantee nothing got into the drain, so mabe this is the case. IIf I did get trash in it will changing the IPR fix it or do I need to be worried about the hpop also?

One more question, If I do the apr studs can I stop worring about my engine, other than the normal mainainace with wear and tear?

I would like to thank you again, I would be lost without your help.
