i just bought a rust free original paint 460 dulie fuel injection has 200klms on it and uses oil it smokes when i get on it theres no blow by but it runs poorly at 60klms it surges or misses and is a real pig on fuel the converter is gutted and the truck has a 2.5performance flo pro muffler on it i did the aircleaner mods with 3inch abs pipe that helped but im unhappy with the performance with the truck ..my 93 f350 7.3 gets 16mpg at 60mph what should i do put a 514 crate engine in the truck and have 500horsepower and 7mpg or does any one has some thoughts on the 460 i need ideas...i found a old 365hp tbird engine sheap...that mite work
I would check compression. and then the normal tune up items plugs cap rotor wires TIMING. How bad of mileage are you getting. If its around 8 mpg then thats about normal. I just changed from the c6 automatic to the zf5 manual and gained 4 mpg on the highway, went from 8-12mpg in a stard cab 250 4x4.
find another 7.3l idi w/trans to set in there and double up her fuel economy like your '93 hey?
why would you even think about buying a 460 pig engine with today's fuel prices? at best, they can only get half what the diesel gets.
start to use them, and they get even worse.
yup 8on the hiway is all it gets my 93idi 7.3 gets 16 at 60mph why did i buy the truck its totally rust free with the original paint on it how much work is it to put a 7.3 in the truck i have a spare 7.3idi for my 93...but i just found a factory ford460 that was rebuilt with 1000miles on it for 500 ..if i put the 7.3 in the truck wouldnt a turbo off a power stroke work...
that swap is not worth it. You need an entire new fuel system, wiring harness, computer, Tranny, t-case, exhaust, wire up a glowplug light in the cab, possibly have drivelines modified, motor mounts, and im sure the list goes on. If you had a donor truck that is wrecked then maybe, but I wouldnt do it unless it was a completely custom project truck
