Coolant level low

I believe I have a bad oil cooler, but I am somewhat questioning my EGR cooler as well. I plan to replace them both, but I noticed today that my coolant level is a little low in the degas bottle. Should I fill with distilled water or buy the recommended coolant? If I need coolant, what kind should I use?

I leave my coolant under the loww mark about 1/2 inch or it will puke it out

alittle distilled water shouldnt hurt test with a coolant hydro meter to verify the proper mix ratio 50/50

does the coolant look like gold or is it red coolant

also get some gaugesa to watch ECT vs EOT spread your truck has the square EGR cooler that fails alot be careful

I have a Scangauge II, and am watching my temps. That is how I came to the fouled oil cooler conclusion.

thats what I did

just keep an eye on the coolant leval if you suspect your losing coolant stop driving it
It doesnt take much coolant in the cylinders to cause Major problems when it overpressurizes the cylinders & heads

try parts guy ed he has the best prices Iv seen on oil coolers

you also may want to update the STC fitting on the HPOP since you have an 05

are you going to do the work

Yes, I had planned to do the work. I hear it is a pain, but I would rather do it myself and save some money. Also, I don't think I have a head gasket problem because I have not seen any evidence of puking out of the degass bottle, white or blue smoke, etc. I just got the wrench light at one point, got the Scangauge and have seen 20-25 degree spreads. Since the wrench light, I have not driven more than 25 or 30 minutes at a time just so I can monitor it. I won't add much distilled water because it isn't very far down.

If you are losing cooant, it's GOT to be going someplace. If not out your bottle, it may be out the exhaust.... and if there, you risk the hydro-lock problem! Beware!!!!!

I am losin coolant somewhere. Don't know where it's goin I don't see wet spots when I park it. Goin to take to a dealer to let them run a full scan an test on everything to see if they can find where it's goin. An to find out why it acts like it skips when in overdrive an the torque converter is locked.
