Does anyone know what size the front brake rotors are on a 04 6.0psd? I have looked at 2 diff parts stores and they each have two diff. sizes for the front rotors. One store is 13" and 14.5" and the other is 13.03" and 14.53". I don't know what size i need for the front. I have called 3 diff. ford dealerships and they all say there is only one size that they show. They all 3 also said that they did not show a size like the parts stores are giving me. Thank you for any help.
Not sure this is much help but the 30 thousandths difference is likely just splitting hairs even though the 13.03 is correct and more accurate. It has either 13in or 14 1/2in brakes (in shorthand speech). My '06 250 has 14 1/2 front and rear.
Sounds like i might just have to pull the wheel off and measure the rotor to figure out if i have a 13in or 14.5in rotors. I will be measuring the surface that the pad would brake on, not the the back of the rotor that mounts to the hub? I know that is probably a dumb question but i just want to make sure.
Depending on what wheels you have you should be able to tell the difference between the two sizes with a couple of straight edges and a tape measure. Or you could pull the wheel and measure.
Funny you should ask. Thought I'd just slap a wrench on it and tell ya but I guess it can't be that easy. I have two wrench sets and neither one has a 16mm! 15 is too small 17 is too big. A 5/8 fits pretty good but looking at the bolt it has metric markings. Put a mic on the bolt and came up with .6246in. That doesn't work out to be anything so I must be a little off. 16mm=.6299, 15.5mm=.6102, 5/8=.6250 so it looks like 5/8 is the winner!
ok thank you for the help. Do you happen to know what size the nut is that i will have to take off to get the rotor off?
there is no nut for the rotors
take it off at the 2 bolts that mount the caliper and set the whole caliper assembly on the leaf spring or tie it up and then PRAY that the rotors are not seized on
I also spread antiseize on rotors where it contacts the unit bearing
