I'm sure this has been done before, but I suck at searching, so here goes.
I had the truck in the tire shop today for it's 5000 mile rotate. They do a pretty good job of looking everything over when they do that (they even wash the tires, wheels and caps while they're off), and they found my upper and lower right side ball joints were pretty worn. I got down and looked myself and I could see them moving.
So. I know that the best ball joints are Moog. Can anyone recommend the best place to get them for the best price? I did a quick google search and found moog-suspension-parts.com. They have the upper (part # K80026) for $45.73 each, and the lower (part # K8607T) for $69.93.
Does anyone know of any better sources? And can I do one side at a time? They thought the other side was OK, and I'd rather not spend the money if I don't have to.
Yeah, it's amazing what all they have. And those ship from Amazon too, not an affiliate.
I am pretty sure you can do just one side if money is tight. It will probably cost you more in the long run than if you did both sides at once. But there is no reason that you have to do both.
Seems like people either think they are the best, or the worst. Which I hate because with my luck they'll end up being the worst, unless I get something else.
The shop quoted me McQuay-Norris, which look like good joints, and I can't find any complaints about them.
Well, I took it in today and had both sides done. McQuay-Norris joints with grease fittings. They look good and it drives good.
$465.14 out the door, including greasing the needle bearings. Can't complain about that.
We'll see how it holds up.
That's VERY CHEAP !!! Did they replace the 2 big axle seals and the O-rings on the hubs and on the back of the wheel bearing assemblies??? If they didn't, and you have ESOF, you may not be able to engage your 4WD. Have you tried it yet ???
They didn't replace any seals. They said they didn't replace them if the didn't need replacing. I haven't checked the hubs yet but I will and if there is a problem I'll deal with it.
