None available. Chip/tuners would require electronics. These engines are all mechanically operated. Now there is other ways of producing more power but, chips arnt an option
That's what I was thinking but I just wanted to make sure. What are some other ways of producing more power? Are they complicated or could a novice like do it?
Since you already have a turbo, there aren't many things I can suggest that wouldn't risk damaging the engine or reducing its lifespan. You should make sure your injection pump and injectors are in good order. They last about 100K miles until both start to wear out.
Well I found a '94 F250 super cab 4x4 with the IDI factory turbo with 230K miles for $3000. It is in great mechanical and cosmetic shape. Already has pillar boost/pyro/trans temp gauges installed has straight pipe exhaust but I'm not sure what brand. I was wanting something that I could add a chip/tuner which would have to be a 94.5 or newer power stroke. I found a '95 F250 supercab 4x4 with 242K miles that has a little rust on the right fender but other than that it's also in good shape for $4000. If you were picking between these two trucks, which would you go with?
I sound like a broken Record/CD, I have both and like both. If you want to be able to service it inexpensively; go IDI. If you want more power, DI. If you go DI, have someone run an A/E (Auto Enginenuity) scan on the truck first.
Several of my rancher friends traded their turboed idi pickups for the power strokes when they came out for the extra power, and were upset over their loss. lol
I trust an IDI over a powerstroke, you can get the IDI's to keep up with early powerstrokes, but after that the stroke will run circles around the IDI, but the IDI will give you 300k+ miles of service, and its damn near impossible to break it if you take care of it and dont run the engine at the governor. You can blow head gaskets but as long as there is oil in the case, fuel getting to the engine, and a cooling system. You should be just fine.
Anyone know who makes a turbo back exhaust for the factory turbo IDI? I looked at ATS and it says their system is made to fit their turbo system and would require extra parts to fit the factory turbo system.
