I just bought an 09 F250 Crew cab SWB 4x4. I wanted an XL model because I dont need all the fancys. Anyway, I have not much experience with the 5.4 Triton motors, how are they overall as far as durability?. What kinda mods are these friendly with to make a little more power or efficiency?. Also, my axle code on the drivers side door sticker says "37"....what axle ratio do I have and is it limited slip?. I love the truck so far and thanks for any info you have. Front axle is a dana 60 also correct?.
There should be an axle tag on your rear diff (attached to a cover bolt), and if you see something like 3L73 on it, it means you have a limited slip 3.73 ratio. Without the LS, it will just read 373. I think most would agree that the 5.4 by '09 is pretty bulletproof.
Im hoping to add some mods to my truck soon. I bought an 08 4x4 CC with the V10 used with 66 k on it so I bought a Ford warranty with it. Obviously I dont want to void the protection so I'll stick with lightweight mods for now.
Yeah I figured the 5.4 has been around long enough that they would have worked out the kinks by 09'. I have heard guys say the the only gasser that should be in a CC HD truck should be the V10 motor, But I have no complaints on the power so far witht he 5.4. I dont tow anything bigger than a 4 place snomachine trailer or a 20' Travel trailer so I have no need for the Big Gasser or the Diesel and with that being said I have no need to pull everyhill at 65-75 MPH like some guys, I'll pull over into the slow lane and let you ****ers scream by.
I bought the v10 cause my buddy has a 5.4, an older one, he was complaining when he hauled his TT. I only haul an enclosed trailer for now, but have plans for a TT so I wanted to be prepared. I'm sure I coulda got by with the 5.4. My work van has one and it runs great with loads.
yeah, here in Alaska there are LOTS of guys who haul big campers etc etc so of coarse there is a big market for Monster Diesel trucks. Up here if you dont have a Diesel pumped out to 600 HP and belching black smoke everywhere you go and you cant pull Turnagin pass at 80 MPH on Icy snow covered roads endangering everyone on the road at 80 MPH then you are considered to have a POS truck. Yeah these guys are stacking chips and blowing up diesel motors at 60,000 miles.
I guess my point is that Im not one of those guys who needs to blow everyhill at mock speed pulling a load to show you how big my Dik is. I'll use the 5.4 and go nice and slow pissin everyone off and keeping my truck alive for as many miles as possible.
