starter problems
If you unplug the "S" wire on the starter solenoid will it stop? If it does, then something is feeding 12V to the red with blue stripe wire. What year, engine, trans setup do you have?
Yes, if you unplug the small wire from the solenoid and it stops, the first place I would look is the wiring under the truck on the driver's side if you have a automatic. The neutral safety switch wiring(which goes directly to the solenoid small wire) and the reverse light wires are grouped together under there, and if the reverse circuit hot wire gets against the neutral safety wire(red/blue) it can put 12v on the solenoid all the time.
It keeps turning over even with the wire pulled off it will stop if I wack the siloniod a couple times, the truck is an 84 but I believe the engine to be a 70s model going by the parts I've had to put on it have had lots of issues since I got this truck

Are you getting the starter solenoid from a chain auto parts store? If so, most of what they sell are cheap, made in china solenoids, and they have a HIGH failure rate. The most common failure, is welding the contacts together inside, so the starter keeps spinning till you either whack it a good lick, or unhook the battery.
Funny.
When I was given my current 1983 truck, I replaced the battery and the solenoid with ones from the chain store. The battery was replaced in about a year, and 6 years later, my chinese solenoid is still working.
I have an OEM solenoid if I ever need it...

If it was 6 years ago, it may not have been the same as the current batch of chineese made junk.....
Also, just to add info for the OP. Make sure the solenoid is grounded good to the fender, and check the connections at the starter and engine block, as well as the engine to firewall ground strap. A loose connection at any of these locations can compound the sticking solenoid issue. So can a starter drawing too much amps.
