Hey I need some help I have a <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">390 </a>with a C6 tranny and i was wondering if there is a way to find out where they came from. Because i have a 1961 F100 now and it had a 223 six with 3 on the tree well b4 i had it. But i bought it with the <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">390 </a>and C6. Im just wondering if any way to tell what year it was from or if it is from a car or truck, etc. Any help will be great thanks!!
I have seen some really good books with block casting #'s, along with the numbers for heads and etc. They will also tell you valve sizes, combustion chamber sizes etc. I have seen them at swap meets, rod shops, and performance shops. I haven't seen them at O'reilly's, Napa, or regular parts stores. There are probably some guys here that if you gave them the numbers they need, they could spit them out from memory. Good luck with your search.
out there, somewhere, there sits a tuna fish can, in a walmart, that used to be a 69 ltd 4 door - its been wondering what happened to that old motor and trans!
Lol whatever i guess it could be from anything but do they have a code or something on it that tell what year it was from. Thanks but no thanks for that help lol
i cant help you on application, but look on the block and heads, etc- ford part numbers start with the year - c means '60s, d means '70s, e means 80s, etc. the next number is 0 thru 9- so, a part number like 'c8xxxx'etc, means it was made in 1968-'c8'. now, a lot of the mustang guys have the part numbers figured out so some of their sites might help. if i stumble on anything else, i,ll post. dont be suprised if you end up with different numbers on everything! and admit it, the tuna can thing was pretty good, huh!
tvs, A truck FE usually has the oil filter that screws in horozontal, while the car FE usually has the oil filter that screws in vertical. If it indeed is a <a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/">390 </a>it is highly likely that it is a car engine because most truck engines were 352s or 360s.
Is there any particular reason you need this info?
No im just wondering and now i have to replace the main seals on the c6 and i know it is a 390. I guess its prob from a car too so is the tranny but idk ill use the info from old65 thanks lol!!
You need to get the part numbers off the heads (between the two center sparkplug holes. The part number off the intake manifold in the front near the firing order. The block number from the right side below the casting plug and off the left side at the bottom of the oil filter adapter. Then measure the stroke. Post back and we can help. Other numbers are important if available from tags on the coil, and<a href="http://www.motorhaven.com/"> carburetor</a>. Sometimes tags are still legible on the air cleaner and valve covers. Post back!
