I am talking about the light bulb in the ceiling that turns on when the door is opened or it is turned on manually via the headlights switch.
It is not bright enough due to its plastic cover. The cover is not clear, it doesn't let enough light through. Not enough to look at a map. I want to replace this cover with something clear, any suggestions?
My 81 F250 has the cab light with the map lights on either side, you can turn the map lights on via a black switch mounted by the lights. If you can find this cab light set in the wrecking yard it will be nice and bright in your cab.
You could also make your own new cover using pvc and plexiglass, just cover the pvc spacer in a material that is similiar in color to your headliner.
Actually, the bulb is bright enough without the cover, the way I have it now. It is very bright. It is the plastic thing that goes over it which obstructs 80% of the light.
Look at the dome lights I have here in pic #43. You can use the newer plastic dome lamps instead of the older chrome ones - they mount to the same terminals and fit fine. Their lenses are clearer and don't age like that white one.
