How do you hook up the pedals to the reservoir pistion. Is it a bolt on or do have to take the pedal apperatice out of the 5 speed and into the other truck.

Well, it just so happens I have a 5 sp out of a '94 F150, complete from clutch pedal to output shaft (former daily driver my son made into a parts truck whilst getting t-boned). He's got a GPS so speedo isn't an issue. Just need to swap in the pedal assy? How about the reservoir mount on the firewall? Need to do some drilling?

Actually, how hard would it be to swap the whole drive train into the F100, engine & all? Still a 300 six. Wiring harness, 'puter, etc. would need to be swapped. Anyone done one?

IIRC you'd also want to swap the dash as I understand the wiring is significantly different.

Not an insurmountable task but requires a bit of work.

the clutch mounting is in the cab already, just remove the plate, and put the master through.
The pedals in the 94 won't work on the earlymodel cab, you will need pedals from 85-91.
the speedo problem can be handled, take the tailshaft off, drill out the hole where the speedo gear goes, and use the gear out of the other trans.... also, you will need the floor plate, I almost forgot that
you can change everything over, from the 94, but the wiring, and computer things on the dash would end up being a nightmare, but do-able

I have never done this myself and maybe we're not talking about the same things here, but the 80-82 models don't have an area in the firewall designed for hydraulic clutches like the 83+ versions do.

Here is from my 81:

your right. My 82 is automatic, so I never looked. you can drill the 3 holes, I think there was a plate for 85 and newer trucks that was available to keep the firewall from cracking, might be worth your while to get one of those.

I've read that the plate is a requirement or it will crack. Don't have any hands-on experience there, just what I read. Might be able to fabricate a plate if you can't find one.

There are others who are certainly more familiar with it than me and can speak more authoritatively on it than me, but I seem to recall the plates being for 1983+ vehicles only.

I can understand having a bad day, it happens to us all times. It's how we handle ourselves during these times that can can make all the difference. As such, I accept your apology, and do not harbor any ill feelings over the incident. just try to refrain from repeating the behaviour in the future.
As for the "early in the morning" part, the response from you was listed as being made at mid-afternoon, my time. Perhaps you are somewhere else in this world, and that was early where you are. You don't (or not as of yet) list a location, so there's no way to really know. I know the world is much larger than just the USA, and time varies around the globe.

As I stated previously, salvage yard parts are always a gamble. Anything short of a full teardown by a trained pro, and a thorough inspection, and it's easy to miss something that's wrong. Even a pro can miss something without doing a full teardown, and sometimes even during a full rebuild.

There were several variations of this trans used over the years, mainly because they were all problematic in real life use. The different parts diagrams posted show that there were changes made during the lifespan of the 3+OD, in order to address the issues that were occuring.
This makes finding a good used unit even more difficult, and rebuilt units are also a bit hard to locate since they are all 25-35 years old.
Most people these days just convert to a different trans, due to the limited availability of *good* replacements in this design. Some swaps are simple, like a NP435/BW T18, and others are more involved such as the M5OD/ZF 5 speeds.

Whatever route you choose to take, there are plenty of folks here that can answer any questions you may have. Be respectful of others, and you will usually get respected back. This is far more important for a new member, since no one really knows who you are.

Yes, I can be a little rude towards a few people, and I sometimes "argue" with others, but the rudeness comes from past dealings with them, and the "arguing" is just how how we have always done things. One of the guys I "argue" with quite often, I would gladly help any day of the week, and I'm pretty sure he knows it. I suspect the feeling is mutual. We just banter back and forth for entertainment value...... Or that's my side of it.

the plate will work, but the rib that goes down by the column on the right side will have to be cut flat. you remove the master cylinder, and use the 4 bolts that hold it on, through the plate, and then remount the master cyl.I recall diesel brad speaking of this plate, and he may be able to give you some info, as ford has discontinued making it. there is a guy on here making them, ask brad.

I think if the 94 is going to be parted, then scrapped, you may be able to cut that part out of the cab. The difference in the cabs in the 94 is the huge aluminum mount for the pedals, and the emergency brake, if you are good with fabricating things, you may be able to utilize the 94 parts. Physcostang put a 94 cab on a 89 truck, when everyone said it couldn't be done, he has a good thread about that about a year ago in the 87-96 threads.

Thanks DB. Food for thought as we map out a plan. Initially, it looks like we will pop in the '94 tranny. Will post back w/pics if anyone would like.
This truck is a beater & needs some TLC but it is sound.

Not to nit pick RW but the kid said he "read" the post early, no mention of when he posted. I know this to be true per a phone conversation I had with him that day. I also know he posted after he got home from work. No need to dig around in profiles looking to trip someone up. He is truly sorry. Let it drop.
