And that costs how much and gets me what benefits - beyond a new screen name if wanted?
I pay the twenty bucks a year.
You get no ads, so the pages load faster. You get to participate in the club in more adult expression. Although the club has been mostly political speak for some time now. I feel that the price of admission helps the site and gives me more knowledge and laughs than a lot of other things do now a days. It renews around my birthday, so it is my little yearly gift to me.

Ad's! That alone may be worth the price of admission to the club. Does that include to your mobile device?!?!?!? That would surely speed the loading.
Did you pull the shifter out of the tranny? I know that I have installed the shifter a bit off before and it would shift into some gears but not others. You may want to pull out the shifter, make sure its in neutral with a screwdriver and re-install.
My understanding is that there are still ads on the mobile version of FTE.
- If/when you create your ticket for this name change thing, make sure your Friends are made aware of the change.
- Ask about the ads for the mobile version... I understand it works better on mobile devices if you tell it to NOT use the mobile version (when prompted when first visiting the site on a mobile device).
there are very few adds on the mobile version, I think I see one every 4 or 5 pages when I am signed in on my phone. When I am not signed in on my phone, and just browsing, the adds are horrible. The supporter thing is well worth the money. It helps to support the site.
I like the way this site changes history. First time I noticed it was when I changed my signature and it changed on all my old posts. This time it's the label just below my name: SUPPORTER.
I'll have to let you know how it works on the iPhone, but the selling point was twofold: The # of private messages and the # & size of pictures. The latter was becoming a serious problem as I try to document the fasteners on these pickups.
I use Firefox with the AdBlock+ add-on which takes care of all the ads (but there's still a big white LH column where some tire rack thing normally gets put). Supporters don't have that column anymore and get a full-width screen.
I think supporters might even be able to change the text below the blue banner (where yours now says Elder User) but that might be a moderator thing only, not sure.
About the History, yes, that stuff doesn't get maintained in a historical context, just like your total number of posts count.
Your signatures are also not maintained, whatever your current signature is (as well as avatar) will immediately change on all your posts when you change it.
This is a database-driven, dynamically-created site, not much is static.
EDIT: BTW you'll need to put in a Ticket for the name change stuff:
Now I won't have to keep deleting PM's just so my buddy that's on a job search can update me. YEAH!
And, it makes sense that old posts get changed when a user's status changes as it would be confusing to see someone as a junior user in one post and an elder user in another. But, that means the server(s) are busy making all those changes.
Also, why would I want to change the text below the blue banner?

No worries with the server. This forum is database driven. When a change is made to your status or profile, its just a couple of fields changed in the database. When a page/post is then displayed to your browser, you'll see the changes reflected. There is no "extra" work done.

Ahh, so that's what ctubutis meant - database driven. I should have thought about that when he said it. Makes sense. My IT technical knowledge is antiquated as I moved to mgmt a long time ago.
