My wife just called me. Said the emission systems light came on. I don't have a catalytic converter. I will run it to O Reillys and scan the codes later today. But can anyone tell me what this might encompass? Thanks

Emissions light? I don't believe there is any such thing.
Check Engine light? CEL? Maybe Water in Fuel Light? WIF?
How agressively does your wife drive? She could've set a code if she was flooring it! It could be anything, you're really going to have to get the codes read from someone who can read the codes on our truck (not a box store). Personally, I wouldn't drive it anymore than I have to until I know whats going on. BUT, if it is still running fine I wouldn't let her sit on the side of the road or anything.
Update- I took our Excursion to OReillys and they do have a scanner that can read codes on PSD's. Anyways the light looks like a check engine light, but the book says emissions etc...So I plugged in the scanner and it came up with P0676 Cylinder 6 Glow Plug Circuit.
It looks like a job that I would not rather tackle and will have a local diesel shop work on it.
Yes a glow plug code from the EX is something that can be read by the free scans at the parts stores. Changing a glow plug is about as difficult as changing a spark plug, except the glow plug is under the valve cover. If you take it to a shop, DO NOT let them install autolite plugs. They are known to swell up and get stuck in the heads.

FYI, the most likely reason why the book says the SES light is emissions because on the non-PSD powered trucks, the SES light usually points to something emission related on a gasser engine (i.e. oxygen sensors, cat, MAF sensor, etc.).
