oil drain plug

oil drain plug

hi i was wondering what is the procedure to drill and tap a new hole in the oil pan for new drain plug can you just drill the hole and then tap the hole thank you very much

You can buy an oversized drain plug that cuts its own threads from autoparts stores. There are several different 'oversizes' available.

The oil pan is just sheet metal so you can not just drill and tap it. You would have to weld a bung to the pan. Or just use an oversize plug.

A common problem when most guys don't replace the gasket they just keep tightening the drain plug. it's size is 1/2" All over size are listed 01=0.10 002 or 0x2= 0.20 oversize. I've tack welded a bolt on the inside and used a 1/2" fine thread bolt with a gasket on 4wd pan. But 2wd pick ups truck pans are a lot of work to remove for the fix. Their is Adapt a plug those work ok for a ez fix. Some guys put them in with rtv for a good seal.. then just remove center plug to drain.
