8 = 1948
8R = is the 239 V8 engine
T = heavy truck (F-4 and larger)
120652 = consecutive unit number

You should have some numbers stamped into the upper part of the firewall. If you find and post those here, we can give you more details about your truck.

Wayne has your info

Serial number of 120652 says it's a fairly late 48, probably an October build date.

A lot of 48's didn't have build codes stamped into the firewall depending on the mfg plant.

Im having issues decoding my 1955 f100's serial number

I recently bought a 1955 ford f100 that i just want to know some stuff about its history, but when i started on the serial number i didnt learn much at all.

Serial number- F10D5N22701

I learned that the F10 was F100 and the D was the flat 6 but after that it was a bit odd and i couldnt find much info on it, sorry if im posting this in the wrong area but it seems right and i need all the help i can get.

As stated

F10 = F100
D = 6 cylinder
5 = 1955
N = Norfolk (Production Plant)

If I remember right, the 5th digit on the car is suppose to be the transmission. And on the trucks it's the year...

Sample 1955 Ford Fairlane Convertible VIN: P5LC123456

P = 292 4V / 5 = 1955 / L = Long Beach CA Assembly Plant / C = Convertible / 123456 = Numerical sequence of assembly.

No VIN contains the trans code, regardless of what year/vehicle it is. Trans code listed by itself on the Rating or Warranty Plate, or Certification Label.
