I live on Cayman Brac with no local dealer close by, my 97 7.3 died. The following codes come up P0344 and P0603. Do I need a new IDM? Please help.
P0344 is a CPS code, so probably your CPS is bad. What is it doing when you try to start it? Tach moving? WTS light coming on/off like normal? Fuses good?
The P0603 is a PCM code, usually from a chip or the batteries being disconnected, nothing to worry about usually.
Ugh, I did a stupid thing. I used a plasma cutter on the bed and forgot to disconnect the batteries, after that only the left hand side was working on the engine but now it only fires on two cylinders. I was hoping it was a dirty fuel filter but after replacing the filter and making sure all the normal stuff like air or lack of fuel was OK I realised it is an electrical problem. I will check the tach but I checked all fuses and will do so again. I have no manual on this vehicle so I assume you are talking about the maxi fuses next to the IDM. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it.
Welcome to FTE. I'm also curious to know what you are using to pull the codes. If it's a tuner of some sort, be sure to set the truck back to the stock setting to make sure it's not the program that got messed up. Can you run any tests or monitor live data, or just pull codes?
The CPS will keep the truck from running, so with that code it's worth changing (and buying a spare). Only get the CPS from Ford or an International truck dealer. The ones from the parts stores have been known to cause issues or fail prematurely. Instructions on how to change are here Welcome to guzzle's CPS R&R Web Page<
