Erratic fuel gauge
On my used '89 F-150 w/ 5.8L, my fuel gauge seems to bouce around alot. Was their a service bulletin on this? If so, since the truck is used and well out of warranty, will Ford still fix it for free? Thanks

my gauge has been dropping right off to zero for a few miles and then going back up to where it's supposed to be on my one tank. just gotta use the tripmeter to be sure

Erratic fuel gauge
I used to have an 89 Ranger that did that and it was a bad "anti slosh" module. Its a little printed circuit board that screwed to the back of the instrument cluster. It keeps the gage from bouncing around when the fuel is sloshing around. I dont know if the F series have these or not but you might want to check into it.

You probably don't want to hear this but when I was using my front fuel tank the guage would fluctuate for a bout a month. Then one day it didn't work at all. So I switched to rear tank and the guage worked fine. Fifty miles later rear fuel pump when out. I love my Ford's but their late eighties early ninety's fuel systems left something to be desired.
