Need help taking pan off

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 16-Nov-02 AT 06:55 PM (EST)]Engine is jacked up two inches and pan won't come off.
What am I doing wrong? Eveything is cleared below the pan.
It's hitting something inside about one inch back.
This is a 460, 89 F250, 4x4.

Sounds like you are hitting the oil pickup. Theres two hex head screws holding the pickup to the oil pump and a bracket holding the tail of the pickup to one of the bearing blocks(#3?). Remove the two screws plus the bolt holding the bracket in place and you should have enough play in the pu to wiggle it free of the pump.

What is preventing you from lifting the engine higher?

It is definitely the oil pick up. I had to unbolt it by feel before the pan would come off and then put it on by feel when I reinstalled. There was no way to get the engine high enough.
