I got up today to start building my engine/frontend back up, and I went to get the Radiator out of the shed. And it was gone! I keep it locked, but some of the side panels can be pulled and someone could slip in.
I just cant believe people these days. And it was A NEW RADIATOR!!
Anyone have any suggestions where i should buy another one. New or Used?
Sorry to hear about your situation. If it were me, I'd make some calls to the local scrap dealers and let them know, so they can keep an eye out for it, and the people who may have it. With the price of scrap these days. these kinds of occurrences are becoming less and less uncommon. Unfortunately. Oh, and make a police report, too. It's very likely this is not the crooks first rodeo, and any lead the good guys can have just might help catch the bad guys.
Welcome to KY. Where the pillheads will risk their lives for an ounce of copper, the scrap dealers act stupid, and the cops say "what do you want us to do about it". This is a true story. I came home one day about 2 months ago and passed some of the low lifes dragging a big cable down the road that they had just stolen from my neighbor. I went and confirmed that they had stolen it in broad daylight. My neighbor is an elderly man, and he refused to press charges despite the fact that he caught them in the act. I pondered it for about a half hour before I got into my truck and paid those dudes a visit. Let's just say they know where I stand if I ever catch them on my property. Go buy yourself a shiny new radiator and tell everybody. Then go home and put 220 volts on that building.
I bought a new radiator for my dad's car from a company called Cool Craft in California. It looks really close to authentic, and they know what they're doing as far as specifications, etc. But man it wasn't cheap. Almost 500 bucks from what I remember. Since then, I've run across probably 5 used ones. But you never know what you're getting with something like that. There's usually a reason that an old radiator is hanging on somebody's shop wall instead of sitting in a truck or car somewhere.
Had a friend lost the radiator out of his wheat truck. He was sowing wheat last fall . A rain came through shut him down for 2 days . Parked his truck at the side of the field came back 2 days later radiator , battery and cables gone.
ya thats too bad, someone probably got $35 for it at the scrap yard?
I sent my kid down to the scrapper last fall with two old radiators, one from my panel truck and one from my '37 Buick, don't worry they were way too far gone to work with, and he came back with almost $200. $100 tax free for working 15 minutes isn't bad money. Although the possibility of lead poisoning in the *** would make me think 2,3,4 times before attempting it myself.
Another downside to this copper madness comes when you go to buy a spool of wire... Beware, our chinese brothers have come out with "CCA" wire. It is aluminum with copper plating, and has far more resistance per foot than pure copper. Looks the same unless you scrape it with a knife, and of course they charge pure-copper prices, worse yet you may not even know you are getting it.
that's why i gotz mallethead wandering the premises ..... he don't like peeps he don't know or thinks is up too no good . he's gotten one pos breaking and entering into a neighbors house { he "noticed" him and damn near tore the door down until i let him out , dummy tried to kick him OOOOOOOPPPPPSSSSS ! }and a bozo trying to get into cars in the hood at 3 am when we were out for a break before i went to work . 110 lb arsehole bulldogs are a great " tool " !!!!!!!!!!!!
