Hey guys, thought I would share my findings after doing the tank mods,I didn't do a full"How to" write up cause there's some good ones out there, but I wanted to report how it turned out. First of all,I have been having a no power under load issue,it was smooth, but at wot it would plateau, and wouldn't get out of its own way,but no check engine light,.....here's why,
It turned out to be a fuel pressure problem,as shown in this first pic,the screens in the mixing chamber were clogged,
Next...
Also, being as my truck is a late'99,it has the small opening in the filler neck...
so I decided to open it up so I could use the large nozzles at truck stops...
All in all it wasn't too bad of a job, with the help of my wife, daughter and bro-in-law,(son has been under the weather lately),I decided not to do the harpoon mod because I'm not too **** about the last little bit going in,and I also was concerned about cutting the vent too short and have fuel splash out from the high speed pumps, but after doing the tank mod, removing the clogged mixing chambers the power is wayy back ...just thought I would post up a little about it....Phil
Nice write up and great pics. I'm having a bit of an issue with top end power myself. With 260k on the clock, It might be a good time to do both of these mods.
Wow. Your screens were pretty bad. I did my in-tank mods a few weeks ago and was surprised to see nearly spotless screens. Great to get in there anyway to get it all sorted out the right way for that peace of mind. Thanks for posting.
Did mine last week screens weren't bad,but I had no pickup foot. Not in the tank, not on the sending unit.Just gone.Waiting on a dahl 100 filter/separator i got on ebay, and have to drop the tank again to put a stainless brake line in,the original is not looking good.
Good write-up. Mine looked new inside compaired to your's, YUCK.

Mine were blocked like yours! I did the intank conversion. On the outside of the tank I put a Dertoit Diesel filter head and a filter, the same one as on my bus. With that mod and a programmer my truck is running better than ever.
i did both mods a couple months ago. my pickup foot was broken off and floating around in the tank. my truck would'nt run below a 1/4 tank. lovin it now!!

Same with my Excursion - floating around on the bottom. These are a must do mod IMO - nice pics Phil . What was that you were using to remove to restriction plate in the filler tube?
