I know, surprisingly enough the tank was pretty clean though. The only trouble I had was I cracked the pick-up foot messing with it and had to do away with it,now the pick-up is 5/8 of an inch shorter, but I ran the tank down to where it was below empty,
before starting, and before I buttoned it all back up I stuck the assembly down in the tank and it still was submerged in the fuel 2" or so.So I guess if it gives me any trouble I'll fight it another day..I do however plan on putting a can of fuel in the bed and run it out to see where the guage is at when it does run out...

Phil - Glad you're up & running right again - Those were some nasty screens. Did mine a couple years back & they werent too bad but only had about 75k on her at the time. Probably feels like you got all kinds of power now, huh?

I need to get this done... and I really want to harpoon it too... this 5-10 minute fill up thing is killing me, lol!

I'm supprised you had to cut the filler neck open. Mine (02) has the wide/open bug truck fill-up neck.

How was your truck running prior to finding black sludge filled screens? Was it bogging, smoking, no midrange, bad boost?

Well at low RPMs it was OK,smooth, good throttle response, but if I did like a rolling kick,it would kick in like it should, but the RPMs would just kinda level off, sorta to a plateau, absolutely no high RPM power,if I was running say 70ish and kick it,it would take at least thirty seconds to reach 80ish,but the power is definitely back after removing the screens from the tank and also the kit is so that you extend the return line so no bubbles from the return line are picked up,I also added the pre-pump filter,(it's the in-tank kit from Dieselsite)...

Murphy Oil is the vendor for most Wal-Mart stores.

Schlepprock250, do you run bio-diesel in your truck? The reason I ask is because I did a lot of driving north to the cabin last year and we have a Murphy station outside a Walmart that had the lowest price so I filled up there on a pretty regular basis. In looking at their pumps, I saw they had a sticker that said their diesel could contain "up to 20% biodiesel". Now, in Minnesota we have a mandated 2% biodiesel requirement for all diesel fuel, and to my knowledge I've never used anything higher than 2% biodiesel before.. I didn't think to much of it until I changed my fuel filter at the end of the summer. I was shocked to see that it looked like no fuel filter in my truck that I've changed before, and I've changed a couple dozen since I got it. The best way to describe it is that the filter looked somewhat melted. It was all still there, but something had really been working on it. Now I'm wondering what other components might have been affected. Since biodiesel is a solvent, that would also explain why your tank was so clean? Just something I thought I'd pass along.
