2003 Expy replacing inside door handle

Hey Guys,

after spending a lot of time looking for instructions on how to replace the inside door handle of my 2003 expedition EB, I am asking for answers. Has anybody replaced the handle? I took off the black trim surrounding it and thought I could change it without taking off the panel, but not sure what to do. I know there is a rod that holds in the handle. what do I need to do? the threads showing panel removal isnt really helping. let me know, appreciate any help! thank you.

If you mean the actual handle and not the mechanism, then after moving the trim ring out of the way, you should be able to look inside and see a bolt head. I think it's a 10mm head. Anyway, remove that bolt and the handle will come with it.

I saw the bolt head. So remove that and the assembly will come out?

Just the handle that you grab onto will come off. Of course if you want to take the entire panel off doing this anyway will help to do so.

well that didnt work. the bolt is one of a few holding a big piece of plastic inside the panel. removing the bolt does nothing. I tried pushing the rod that holds in place out, but not working. not sure if i should push up or down. any other suggestions?

you release the handle from the clip holding it, then remove the cable that opens the door.
