Tractor Supply Co. toolbox/chest?

Looking at getting a toolbox/chest, and right now, a Tractor Supply Co. toolbox is looking the all around best-it seems to be well built, and fairly cheap.

I found Tractor Supply Co.® Fullsize Single Lid Tread Aluminum Utility Chest, Silver - 1090587 | Tractor Supply Company

That should suit my needs just fine. Has anyone had any experience with this toolbox or this brand?
If the pic is not loading on the site (which happened to me), here it is

My dad likes the idea of getting a chest more than an over-the-rail box for some reason, is there any reason I should go for one over another?

Thanks

I have tractor supply over the rail double gull wing tool box on my truck, its not real deep, which to me isnt a big deal, and it leaves alot of room in the bed under the box so you dont completely loose that bed space. Ive had mine for 3 years and it looks just about the same as it did when i bought it. I would recomend it.

Here is the one i have:

Thanks. Starting to feel a little better about getting a Tractor Supply Co. toolbox. I've never really liked the look of the gull wing toolbox, and it feels to me that the middle of the box is fairly useless. I'd like to be able to put something the total length of of the toolbox in the toolbox if I were to choose to. I know I could probably work around that slight limitation, but that's just me.
Thanks for reassuring me on the brand.

We have alot of TSC's around here, and alot of people i know have toolboxes from them, and none of them have a problem. The box is open inside from side to side, there isnt any seperator, so you would be able to put something full length in there, and the lids open up really far so i wouldnt think you would have any problem getting somethin long in there. Just my opinion

Just found Tractor Supply Co.® Full-Size Single Lid Chest, Black - 1091428 | Tractor Supply Company

which has a bigger interior space, is black (I want my accessories to be black to off-set the white), and it's $10 less than the previously posted toolbox.

and I know that the middle isn't blocked off and that it's all open. My friend has a gull wing toolbox and the lids don't open very wide and it's hard to get long things in it unless you really lay into the lid to get it to open wider.
Albeit, it is 23 years old...so that may be the problem, but that's the only experience I've had with a gull wing toolbox.
It's actually in my garage right now, if you want me to take a picture so you can see what I'm talking about and why I have reservations about gull wings?

No, i understand, my lids open up greater than 45*. I just personally like to get in the box from the side, and i have all my stuff in two rubbermaid totes, one on each side so my stuff isnt sliding around. Beings these trucks bed sides are so tall, you might end up having to get in the bed to get some stuff out of a chest type box, but that is all up to you. It just comes down to what you will use it for i guess, i just use it to store tools and stuff and i dont regularly get stuff in and out of it. You will probably just have to go and look at a few to see which one you like better.

I got bored

Well you're getting closer to persuading me to get a gull wing. Found this one Tractor Supply Co.® Full-Size Double Lid Tool Box, Silver - 1099434 | Tractor Supply Company
Its the same one that you have.

What is so appealing is that it is quite a bit cheaper than a chest, and as you said, you don't have to get in the bed to get stuff out. That part doesn't bother me too much right now, but in a year it may get annoying jumping in the back every time I want something.

On another subject, how did you attach your toolbox to your rail? All of my friends have their toolboxes bolted right to the rail, but I've heard you can use J bolts to secure it. Do J bolts have a tendency to bend the side of the bed rail?

Mine came with j bolts. That's what I used. It didn't bend the bed rail. And I got it really tight. It hasn't moved or needed tightened in 3 years

Did they just provide 1 for each side, or 2?

I got the rail/gull wing type, deep style with single lid. (Lowes/Kobalt, $235) I didn't want to lose the bed space under the box. I like the single lid as I can put large/long stuff in the box if I want to. The lid opens almost 90 degrees so plenty of access. It locks/unlatches from either side. I have a sliding "tray" at the top inside and use boxes for dividers inside. I went ahead and bolted mine directly to the rails.

If you plan adding a topper, you'll want the chest style tool box. I don't get into mine that often, so the chest style works for me. I mounted some 4" aluminum rails under the box so I could still slide some plywood or 2x4's under it and get full use of bed floor. But I have a cap on my truck because I use the truck primarily for towing my enclosed car hauler. Almost forgot, there are a lot of Tractor Supply boxes in trucks in northern Indiana also and they seem to be holding up well. Many of them are quite old and still look decent.

i don't know if i measured wrong, or if i'm just tired, but it seems like the dimensions inside the bed are FUBAR.
i saw this Tractor Supply Co.® Full-Size Single Lid Chest, Black - 1091428 | Tractor Supply Company
so i measured from the back to the wheel well, and i only had like 14" of flatness on the bed wall before it started to get narrower. Not completely sure, but would this toolchest fit, i forgot to measure and its 1:00 right now, and i don't want to go back out, but because the chest is only 57" long, would it fit in between these bulges that come before the wheel well. i know it wont fit in between the wheel wells, because its only about 51", but maybe before it?

This would almost certainly fit, right? Tractor Supply Co.® Full-size Single Lid Tool Box, Black - 0184008 | Tractor Supply Company

thanks.

EDIT:
Almost positive that this would fit http://www.tractorsupply.com/vehicle...silver-1099492

EDIT2:
I have the feeling that I am way over thinking and worrying about this. Just trying to get all the info I need to know, because I'm not going to be driving my truck to get the toolbox, so I can't test for fit at the store. Gonna take a lot of measurements to take with me.

What size bed do you have, the 5 1/2 ft beds may not have enough flat space on the floor before the wheel hump to set a chest. Im not sure though, i have a 6 1/2ft bed and a over the rail.
