i just recently bought a 2x4 1990 bronco 2 with an auto tranny......
now iv replaced the seal and hooked the drive shaft up strated it and let it run..... did not leak at all..... i drove it down the road and back and it was pouring out..... so i got a new seal thinking maybe it had ripped.... same thing happend......
I ended up buying another seal and bought a new bushing put it all togeather let it sit and run... everything was fine.... once again when i drove it, it started leaking again..... not near as bad as before.....
But im completely lost and dont kno were to go from here.... any advice???
pouring out of the front of the transmission? where the torque converter slides on? I replaced that thing 3 times in one day..never could get it to stop leaking..wound up putting a different trans in it..
Check you drive shaft for wear or any nicks/burrs. If that's good, its a possablity you dammaged the new seal when installed. There's a small spring that puts tension on the wear lip(part that rides the shaft) that could have gotten knocked out of place. Its a really small spring kinda looks like a O ring and about the diameter of a pencile lead. With out that, your going to have nothing but leaks.
Another thing, is the tranny fluid leaking from the shaft area or the outer seal area? If its the outer area, best thing to do is reinstall a new seal and use little RTV to help seal it to the case.
