remove door panel?
Ok, I am going to replace my factory speakers in my 99 XLS explorer. I have a kenwood cd player with 2 12" mtx subs and an MTX amp. Thought it was time to replace the factory speakers. I am just going to do the front doors for now and the rear doors later(4 door explorer). Ok, anybody got any hints or illustrations on how to remove the door panel to get at the speakers? It has power door locks, windows and mirrors.

I have the 03 and it took me 10 minutes to figure it out. If its the same set up as mine you will have to remove the screw or srews on the bottom, remove the cover that the window buttons are on. Mine lifted from the front then pulls up and out. Dont force it or you will break the tabs. After removing the dow button cover there should be a screw holding the door handle to the frame of the door. Remove it and,..... oops forgot to mention the window must be down. Now remove the door panel by sliding it up and out. It will take a bit of toying around with it but the tabs that hold it in place are an L shape. as you slide the door panel up keep an eye on the door handle that opens the door. You might have to pull that so the panel slides up to release the hook under it. There should only be 4-6 hooks holding the door on. I like this set up. it is very easy to remove and replace the panel once you learn how and the best thing is that its a tight fit.
