Remember that the PCM collects data from a number of different sensors in the truck, and this data is available with the right tool from the OBDII port.
I have a Scangauge. I plug it in and it allows me to read coolant temp, intake air temp, transmission temp, manifold pressure, and a whole lot more. I don't have the hassle or expense of running wires throughout the truck nor do I have warranty problems by drilling and tapping things that otherwise shouldn't be.
Some other ones are:

Banks IQ
Aeroforce Interceptor
